On Saturday, 1 October 2005, two plaques were unveiled in honor of military and Department of Defense civilian firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

Selena Rangel, wife of Staff Sergeant Ray Rangel, who died in the line of duty on February 13 at Balad Air Base, Iraq, was in attendance to place a paver in her husband's honor.

The Goodfellow Air Force Base newspaper was on scene to report on the occasion. The story was placed in the Goodfellow Monitor. Also in attendance to report on the story were the KSAN and KLST local news teams. See the KSAN or KLST stories aired on local television.
